Take Swift Action

It's not too late to become a swift host for this year. The birds arrive in Harleston in early May and you could have a couple of boxes installed on your house by then if you contact : Peter Metcalf on 01379 854872/07936 160381

What you need is:

  • a north or east facing wall with preferably 3 metres clear beneath the box ( the boxes are fixed high up under the eaves)

  • a set of electronics, including a 'tweeter' to attract the birds (all supplied)

  • a couple of boxes (supplied and fixed by Swift Action)

Swifts are an endangered species, and need our help! This year, we are building on the reputation of the town as a leader in swift conservation and the idea is to add as many new nesting sites to our existing portfolio of approximately 150 boxes.

Don't worry - swifts are very clean birds. They do not 'poo' everywhere. They clean up around their nest sites. so no mess on your house or garden. Sometimes sparrows or starlings may inhabit the boxes (and create a bit of a mess) before the swifts arrive, but the swifts will turf them out when they come in May.
